Pull out of Iraq.

Up until just 5 minutes ago, I supported staying in Iraq to prevent the region from descending in to even worse chaos. My thinking was that we (the US) have to take responsibility for our ill-advised war.

That all just changed. I just heard this coverage of "honor killings" on NPR. My support just melted. The democratic aspirations of a few Iraqis cannot outweigh the barbaric, fundamentally undemocratic horrors against women that go un-punished. If the larger Iraqi population wants to participate in the world as a civil society, it must be a grass roots effort and not proselytized upon them by outsiders. It seems clear to me now that their definition of civil isn't the same as mine. And until it is, we cannot spend another life on their desire to establish an Islamic state.

The first update in a long time, I know. But if anything I have thought has been worth saying in the last year, this is it.
